Text ‘Haiti’ to 90999, help Red Cross

Melanie on Friday, January 15th, 2010 at 1:05 am.

Want to make a Haiti donation to a legitimate organization?

Anyone with a cell phone can simply text “Haiti” to the number 90999 and make the small donation of $10, which will directly benefit the Red Cross.

“This is an easy way for people to help the victims of this horrible disaster,” mGive President James Eberhard told me. “It takes 10 seconds, and it will make a huge difference in the relief efforts. We’ve eliminated the worry that usually goes with sending money—mobile providers simply bill the customer.”

The Denver-based company mGive is the brainchild of Eberhard, who invented mobile fundraising. Founded in 2005, it has benefited other charities such as United Way of America and Keep A Child Alive.

One hundred percent of 90999 text donations will benefit the Red Cross, which is also fully supported by the U.S. State Department and The White House.

For more information, visit mGive’s website. Melanie Harmon can personally attest: $10 dollars in 10 seconds are all it takes to help Haitian victims in their hour of need.
